Why is Breathwork important?

It is said “the length of your life is determined by how many breaths you take.” The less you breathe the longer you live. The breath is one of the few bodily functions that is both involuntary and can be consciously controlled. You can speed the breath, slow it, pause it, flow it in a rhythm, breathe deep and shallow, heavily or quietly. How you breathe affects your physiology and psychology in different ways. For good or bad.

When to do breathwork?

Breathwork can be performed any time of the day. There are a multitude of breathing techniques with different outcomes, while some are better performed in the morning others are better for the evening. Most often it is recommended to do on an empty stomach.

A morning routine usually includes energizing deeper diaphragmatic breathing to release stale air from the system, detoxing breathing and balancing breathing techniques, to set you up for the day.

An evening routine may include more relaxing type breathing with longer exhales to help wind down for sleep.

Who developed Breathwork?

Breathing techniques have been recorded as long ago as 2000BC in China with the practice of Qigong. In India there are records of Pranayama (Breathing Techniques of Yoga) dating back to 700BCE. It was only in modern times in the west during the 1960’s that breathing techniques or processes became popular. People like Stanislov Grov developed Holotropic breathing. While Leonard Orr developed Rebirthing.

What is SOMA Breath Meditation?

‘SOMA’ means one body, one mind, one spirit, one community.

Niraj aka The Renegade Pharmacist developed this powerful technique after his own self-healing experience from a chronic illness, Ulcerative Colitis. He later trained in the ancient science of breathing called Pranayama. Pranayama literally means ‘control of life force’. When you breathe consciously you create an electrical flow of energy through your body.

You can literally create an energy inside you that is so radiant and powerful, you can produce ecstatic states of magnetism to literally bend reality, create strength, happiness, download visions and even heal parts of your body.
